Taisan Loaf Cake

Cakes can be a little arduous task at times, but Taisan cake is the type that counters this idea. This soft and fluffy cake made up of flour, baking powder, eggs, sugar and milk is baked super easy to be indulged and enjoyed by the whole family.

Taisan cake is a proud native baked treat of the Philippines. It is a the Filipino-style chiffon cake topped with melted butter, sugar, and grated cheese baked in a loaf pan.

I am very fortunate to have local bakeshops near and in fact, just a few steps away from where I live. They always have in stock this delicious light and fluffy cake which I can order whenever I decide to. The problem is, its taste comes very inconsistently — sometimes a bit dry, while other times it’s too sweet. That is why I succumbed to making myself one and it did not at all disappoint.

How to Make Taisan Loaf Cake

Before making a Taisan loaf cake, be sure to have the proper ingredients and a good recipe guide. Of course, you don’t want to miss adding a simple ingredient or be overwhelmed during the procedure.

Now, take all the ingredients out of the bag and let’s start! In a bowl, sift the flour and baking powder then set it aside. In a separate container, mix thoroughly the egg yolks, sugar, vanilla extract, and vegetable oil. Combine the former dry mixture into this wet mixture. Then, make a meringue out of fully-whisked egg whites and cream of tartar in a small container. Add this meringue into the egg yolk mixture, parts at a time while folding until it becomes uniform in color.

It’s baking time. While you preheat the oven at 375°F or 175°C, grease the loaf pan with lined parchment paper and pour down the batter. Bake this for 12-15 minutes or until a toothpick that is used to poke the middle comes out clean. Let it cool completely then tip it out of the loaf pan by carefully running the edges with a sharp knife. Flip onto a wooden bread pallet and glaze with melted butter then sprinkle with sugar and grated cheese. Yum!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 and 1/8 cup cake flour

  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • 3 pcs eggs

  • 1/2 cup white sugar

  • 1/2 vanilla extract

  • 1/4 cup milk

  • 1/8 cup vegetable oil

  • 1/8 tsp cream of tartar

  • butter

  • grated cheese

Directions

  • In a big bowl, sift well the cake flour and baking powder. Mix this dry mixture then set it aside.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the egg yolks, sugar, vanilla extract, milk, and vegetable oil. Stir until well-combined.
  • Slowly add the dry mixture into the wet mixture. Mix and fold thoroughly.
  • In another bowl, whisk the egg whites until it form soft peaks. Add the cream of tartar and continue mixing. Scoop portion of this mixture at a time into the egg yolk mixture earlier in between thorough whisk.
  • Line some parchment paper in the cake pan. Grease the inside entirely. Carefully pour the batter into it then tap thrice to flatten and so to remove the air bubbles.
  • Preheat oven at 375°F (175°C). Bake the loaf cake for 12-15 minutes. Poke it with a toothpick and it should come out clean. Let it cool for a few minutes.
  • Take it out of the loaf pan by carefully running a sharp knife round the edges then flipping it onto a rack. After peeling the parchment paper off, brush the top surface with butter and sprinkle sugar and grated cheese. Enjoy!
