SHROOM YOUR DISH WITH MUSHROOMS
Since the discovery that mushrooms are edible and are safe for consumption, people started enjoying mushrooms in different dishes all over the world. Out of more than 14000 varieties of mushrooms, only around 20 of them are considered flavorful and are used for culinary purposes. Aside from being an ingredient, some mushrooms are also used for medicinal purposes.
Some of the most popular edible mushrooms include shiitake, button mushrooms, enoki, giant puffball and many more. Among them, we most commonly see the button mushrooms used as a gravy flavor mostly for steaks (especially our fave Jollibee’s burger steak!).
Economically, mushrooms are considered as vegetables because of their nutritional value. But scientifically, mushrooms are considered fungi (but not the bad fungi!). Did you know that a 100 grams of mushrooms is only 22 calories? Mushrooms are rich in proteins, antioxidants and fiber. Aside from their added flavor to a dish, they also provide additional nutritional benefits.
Pork With Mushroom Sauce
With the rise of the korean food culture in the Philippines, of course we’ll go with the trends. Ever since I was introduced to the concept of samgyupsal, I always make sure that I have a stash of sliced pork belly in my fridge, just waiting for my Friday k-drama night.
I used to make samgyup but ran out of gochujang. Instead of having a boring samgyupsal, I decided to cook my pork belly slices in a saucy way, so that I won’t need any sauce. I spotted my cream in the fridge and that instantly screamed “creamy pork!” to me. And what’s the next big thing after cream? Mushrooms!
If you wanna know how to make some pork with mushroom sauce, read and follow the simple steps below. Happy cooking!
Pork With Mushroom Recipe
Making some creamy pork mushroom is super easy and straightforward. If you have tried making any creamy dishes in the past, then this recipe will be super easy for you.
Lets start with the pork belly. You can also try using other pork cuts if you like. Start by searing the pork slices in a hot pan. Searing greatly adds flavor to the dish and locks the juices and flavors inside the pork. No need to add any oil since the pork will render its own as it cooks. This step is super easy, especially when you cook samgyupsal a lot!
When the pork is done, time to make the creamy sauce. To infuse the mushroom flavor, saute them together with the aromatics. For this recipe, I used the button canned mushrooms for convenience. Add the pork back to the pan and saute them altogether.
Add the rest of the seasonings. Before adding the cream, remember to lower the heat. Milks and creams are very easy to burn. Do a taste test and adjust the flavors. Cook them for a few more minutes and just wait until all the ingredients come together.
I really love my creamy pork mushrooms on top of a big bowl of hot steaming rice or with lettuce and all the samgyup side dishes. Yum!
COOKING TIPS
- You can use lean pork or kasim if desired for a less fatty dish.
- If you want it to be cheesy aside from being creamy, you can add some grated mozzarella cheese!
