WHAT IS A JELLY?

Even though the fruit cocktail is the most important ingredient for this creamy fruity jelly recipe, the jelly takes up a large portion of this dessert.

Have you observed your lola crushing some red and yellow sticks while your other lola simply dissolving some powder to turn into jelly? While jelly and gelatin has been used interchangeably, there is a difference between the two.

The powdered jelly is the one in sachets and more commonly available in groceries. It is made from carageenan seaweeds. While the gelatin is made from animal collagen. This is oftenly sold in large crunchy and crushable sticks which are often yellow or red in color. There is also a sheet version of this. Unlike the jelly which is highly dissolvable in water, the gelatin needs to be soaked in water to bloom.

While you can use any of the two in making the jelly part of this dessert, the jelly powder is much easier to use.

CREAMY FRUITY JELLY

Creamy fruity jelly is one among the most common desserts you see in a handaan. Aside from this is super easy to make, a single sachet of jelly powder can already produce a liter of jelly, enough to satisfy a lot of people after a lot of oily and fatty foods.

During handaans, I make my fruit jelly first since it needs extra time for cooling down, firming, and refrigeration. It is actually super easy to make especially when you have this very large tupperware you can shove the whole can of fruit cocktail into. This is sometimes not a good idea when your visitors are like zombies which sweeps all the jelly in a snap. This is why I started making my creamy fruity jelly into llaneras now. Putting them out from the fridge one at a time will make sure everyone gets a chance to eat some jelly.

I only make some jelly desserts for celebrations before, not until my cute baby niece marks her 7th month. Babies this age are allowed to eat soft foods as they tolerate. Fruits are some of the first foods you can offer to a baby to ensure a healthy diet and to not pressure their gums.

It was only a joke when my mom gave a little spoon of my creamy fruity jelly to this baby niece who only just started eating solid food. We all got surprised as she cries everytime we stopped giving her some jelly. This gave an idea that we can introduce more fruits to her with the use of this creamy fruity jelly. So far, she has tried banana, strawberries, ripe mangoes and many more.

If you wanna know how to make fruity jelly at home, read and follow the quick steps below! This dessert is not just beneficial for handaans, but to also help you introduce some fruits to your babies. Yum!

HOW TO MAKE CREAMY FRUITY JELLY

If you are running out of easy dessert ideas, this fruity jelly will definitely save you. With just a few ingredients, this sweet treat is super quick to make, plus, it’s super economical and will surely fit your budget.

The goal of this dish is to make a sweet jelly using some fruit cocktail at the bottom. The most common container used for this kind of dessert is the llanera, or the oval-shaped mini pan made with an aluminum tin can. You can use the llaneras for making individual servings or use a large container for a large serving of fruity jelly. I will be making this fruity jelly for our upcoming fiesta so using llaneras would be the best choice. The fruity jelly will be devoured in an instant if I serve it in just one large container! It is best to serve just a few llaneras and then just refill them to make sure that everyone can get a bite.

To start with this dessert, open your large cans of fruit cocktail and separate the fruits and the juice/syrup. The syrup will be used as the base for the jelly while the fruits will be used as it is. Arrange some fruits on the llaneras to prepare them. Usually, papaya, pineapple, nata de coco and cherries are the fruits mixed in a fruit cocktail. You can add some sliced fruits of your choice to make it more varied and colorful.

Make the jelly mixture by dissolving the jelly powder in water and fruit syrup then heating it up. It is your prerogative if you want to add some sugar since the syrup is already sweet, plus, we are using condensed milk and all purpose cream to make it creamy and silky. Do not use high heat for this step because the milk easily burns.

The last step would be pouring the jelly mixture onto the llaneras, on top of the fruit cocktails. Since I am rich with fruits today, I made layers of fruits and jellies by having the first layer of jelly firm before adding another layer of jelly. With this way, even the middle of a thick jelly would have fruits in it!

Aside from preparing the fruit jelly in llaneras, I also prepare some small serving of these for my cute baby niece. Just enough for one serving of her dessert. Yum!
