Chicken Lasagna

Lasagna is a dish which truly amazed us Pinoys. You can always see this on the premium menu from the famous Italian restaurants.  Lasagna is one of the cream of the crop among the wide array of pasta dishes all over the world. Although its history is quite unconfirmed, how this dish evolved into the lasagna that we know now makes us highly satisfied with every bite.

The lasagna pasta is characterized by being a flat sheet, which makes it most unique. By definition, the term “lasagna” or “lasagne” means “a baked dish made with layers of pasta sheets”. Lasagna had been known to have cheese and ragu (meat) among the layers. Aside from this, the bechamel sauce or the white sauce adds a great contrast with the tomato based chicken layer. Super yummy!

With its alternating layers of goodness, it can be more fulfilling to the tummy compared to the regular pasta dishes. Up to this date, lasagna is always enjoyed for snacks and dinners together with our favorite garlic bread.

If you wanna know how to make chicken lasagna at home, read and follow the simple steps below. Yum!

How to Make Chicken Lasagna

Making some chicken lasagna requires extra steps than your regular pasta dishes. It would take around an hour to be fully prepared but it’s totally worth the wait!

This chicken lasagna recipe has three layers, the lasagna pasta, the chicken and the white sauce. The pasta is simply cooked. Boil them in water until al dente or follow the cooking instructions. I recommend to do the pasta first before the rest of the recipe so that they have enough time to cool down.

For the chicken mixture, we will be using a food processor or a blender to make grind the breast with out target size. If you have no food processor, you can simply opt to buy ground chicken. Saute the ground chicken in a pan together with the aromatics, bell peppers, seasonings and tomato sauce. I added some tomato ketchup for a defined bright red color and for a sweet taste. Cook this until everything is tender. You may add water to help the meat cook easier.

For the white sauce, more commonly known as the bechamel sauce, start by making the classic roux. This can be made by mixing oil and flour in a heated pan. It will first start to make a very sticky mixture. That’s when you add the milk to dilute it into a creamy sauce. Make this cheesy by adding some quickmelt cheese. Don’t forget to season this with oregano powder before turning the heat off.

The second to the last step for this chicken lasagna recipe is to arrange them in a baking pan. Simply create alternating layers of the lasagna pasta, the chicken mixture and the white sauce. The white sauce must be the last layer on top. Add some grated mozzarella cheese on top before baking this in the oven.

Once fully baked, allow this to rest first for a few minutes before slicing. I really love this chicken lasagna recipe together with some freshly baked garlic bread. Yum!
