Chicken Biryani

This simple Chicken Biryani recipe is flavor packed, made with chicken pieces cooked in gravy made of onions, garlic ginger paste, biryani mix, tomatoes, yogurt, coriander, and chillies. The basmati rice is cooked and spiced with salt, cinnamon, and cloves separately. Chicken Biryani Recipe :

Ingredients

  • 1 kilo chicken pieces
  • 4 medium onions, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons garlic ginger paste
  • 4 tablespoons biryani mix
  • 4 tomatoes, quartered
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • A bunch of coriander
  • 5 green chillies
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 pieces cloves
  • 3 cups basmati rice
  • Oil
  • Water 
  • Sliced lemons for garnish

Steps:

  1. In a pan at medium heat, add some oil and cook the onions for 10 minutes. Add garlic ginger paste and fry for 2 minutes before adding the chicken pieces. Cook for 2 -3 minutes at high heat.
  2. Once the chicken changes in color, add in the biryani mix, give it a good stir. Splash in some water, place in the tomatoes and mix.
  3. Pour in the yogurt and give it a mix. Sprinkle in coriander and green chillies. Cover and cook for 20 minutes. Let it cook till the sauce has almost dried up. Turn off the heat and set aside.
  4. For the rice; In a pot of boiling water add some salt, cinnamon sticks, and cloves. Mix till salt dissolves. Add in the basmati rice and let this cook till it’s 90% done.
  5. After its cooked, drain the rice. Place half of these in a pot, layering the cooked chicken on top. Then, cover the chicken with the remaining rice. Top with coriander.
  6. Cover and cook for 7 – 8 minutes. Mix to make sure the rice is coated with the sauce. Transfer to a plate and serve garnished with lemon slices.
