What are Filipino Long Beans?
Filipino Long Beans or what many Filipinos might call “Sitaw” are slender, extra-long green beans that are common in Filipino cooking. These have a slightly sweet earthy flavor and a slightly tender texture that turn crisp-tender when cooked. This texture holds up well in stir-fries, sautés, and stews. It’s even a key ingredient in many traditional dishes like Adobong Sitaw, Pinakbet, Ginisang Sitaw, and many mixed-vegetable recipes.
Beyond their versatility, these long beans are packed with health benefits—they’re rich in fiber, vitamins A and C, folate, and plant-based protein. All these combine to provide many health benefits like digestion, immunity, and overall wellness. Also, because they grow abundantly in the Philippines these green beans are budget-friendly and easy to find sold anywhere from the streets, dry market, grocery stores sometimes even outside people’s homes. These are also easy to grow at home. A staple vegetable in many Filipino households, loved for its flavor, texture, nutrition, and ability to stretch meals without sacrificing taste.
