For some historians, iced tea has been seen in the United States since the 1800’s. black tea was a commonly used tea for this drink and were used in cocktails, some cookbooks use a combination of green tea, liquor, sugar, cream, and ice to make punch. Iced teas became even more prevalent as the later half of 1800. A fixture on the American culture especially on the Southern United States, the oldest recipe for sweet tea includes 6 ounces of tea, 2 teaspoons sugar, ice, with a squeeze of lemon. In 1928, a cookbook named ‘Southern Cooking’ with a iced tea recipe by Mrs. S.R. Dull who created the standard of Southern Iced tea which was a mix of freshly brewed black tea infused for 3 to 5 minutes, once the desired strength of tea is obtained, pout over ice and mixed and sweetened. Iced tea has been so popular that June was named as ‘National Iced Tea Month’ with June 10thbeing the ‘National Iced Tea Day’.
