WHAT IS A BROCOLLI?
Broccoli is one of the underrated vegetables. When you go to the vegetable section of the grocery, the small all – green vegetable which looks like a small tree is the broccoli. This vegetable is commonly confused with the cauliflower, which is another veggie which looks like a small tree. The main difference with these two is the color. Broccoli has a dark green head while the cauliflower has a light green head.
Although the broccoli looks big, only the “head” of the broccoli is usually used in cooking while the stem of this veggie is only used in veggie stock. The head of the broccoli is cut into florets.
The broccoli florets can be added into any dish like cheesy broccoli, beef broccoli, roasted broccoli and many more. In this recipe, broccoli is one of the main ingredients of this stir fried dish.
SHRIMP WITH BROCOLLI
Shrimp and broccoli are just two of the most expensive ingredients you can see at the market. Any dish made with them is extra special and is usually only served during occasions and celebrations.
For us, shrimp with broccoli is our go-to dish when our relatives from the US visit us in the province. We just got this slight sense of pressure to serve them some sosyalen dish. That’s the least we can do when they shower us with all the best chocolates in the world.
One thing I love most about the shrimp with broccoli is its color. The combination of green and orange is very pleasing to the eyes and makes the dish extra appetizing to the tastebuds. With my previous shrimp and broccoli dish, I do not remove the shrimp shells. I hate that I need to pause to every shrimp just to take off the shell. So for this recipe, I removed the shells and the head so all we need is to enjoy eating.
Shrimp with broccoli is one of the recipes which my attack mode really turns on (since I wanna eat a lot to see my money’s worth haha). If you wanna know how to make some shrimp with broccoli, read and follow the simple steps below. Happy cooking!
HOW TO COOK SHRIMP WITH BROCOLLI
Making shrimp with broccoli is very easy and straightforward. Aside from the usual stir fried recipes, this recipe will share a few extra steps to achieve the best version of this dish.
Start by preparing the shrimp. For this recipe, we are going to remove the heads and the shells of the shrimp. Most of the shrimps have a “sungot” or pointy part, so I suggest using kitchen shears when beheading the shrimps. Do not discard the heads and shells of the shrimp as they would make a nice seafood broth. (Super yumyum!)
Next, we are going to prepare the broccoli. The broccoli looks like a small tree, right? Cut only the dark green parts and leave out the “stem”. Do not discard this as you can use this for a veggie broth. To make the broccoli much more pleasing to the eyes, lets blanch them.
To blanch the brocollis, boil some water and add some baking soda. I won’t go through with the science behind this but its amazing! The baking soda will be the agent which will brighten the green color of the broccoli. Just be careful not to put too much baking soda as it might affect the taste of the brocolli, giving it an aftertaste.
The next steps would be sauteing all ingredients until they come together. Add the ingredients one by one and unleash the inner chef in you by shaking the pan! This step will take around less than 5 minutes. When the sauce thickens, then its done!
Prepare a giant bowl of rice and top it with some stir fried shrimp and broccoli! Yum!
