Crispy Fried Prawns
These “Batter Fried Prawns” also called “Fried King Prawns” or “Fried Tiger Prawns“, depending where you find them are a party favorite. Easy to prepare with just a few ingredients under 10 minutes more or less. A scrumptious no fail recipe anyone can make!
How to cook giant prawns? To prepare the prawns, clean these by removing the head, shell and vein to make it easier to eat. These are then left marinating with a batter made of buttermilk to keep the seafood moist and soft, egg as a binder, and mustard for a slight kick which also helps remove any foul smell seafood might have. After the marinade is a dusting made of all purpose flour, cajun seasoning, and salt. This makes a slightly thick cover for the prawns that are then deep fried till golden. These are enjoyed as is but are best served with a side of homemade ranch dip just by mixing sour cream, mayo, chives, dill, lemon, and garlic, or with extra lemon on the side to add back some freshness and zest. A surefire way to impress any guests or to enjoy a quick and easy to do weekend lunch with family or friends.
Questions:
- Do I need to remove the shell?
While there are also dishes that serve these with the shell in as “Fried Prawns with Shell” removing the peel and vein just makes it so much easier to eat and taste better as the ‘vein’ or ‘digestive tract’ can also taste bitter and unappetizing.
- Can I use other seasonings?
Yes, aside from cajun seasoning you can also use a mix of garlic powder, onion powder, italian seasoning, or any type of flavoring of your choice.
- How to make this a spicy fried prawns recipe?
Simply add in a mix a tablespoon of paprika, cayenne, chili powder or a mix of all these in the flour mixture.
- How much are the deep fried prawns calories?
Golden fried prawns calories amount to around 115 calories for a serving of 100 grams.
