Making the stew taste more flavorful and deep. Use cheap wine for cooking as the wine will mellow as it evaporates. If you’re looking for a replacement for the red wine, try using: more broth, cranberry or grape juice (unsweetened), or simply water.

- Other types of meats to use :
If beef chunks aren’t available to make this simple beef casserole, you can also use ground meat for a “Ground Beef Stew”, this also helps lessen the time to just cooking the ground beef in the stew for 5 – 7 minutes. Another option would be using beef short ribs which will take as much time or a bit more as the beef chunks.
- No tomato paste? Use these instead :
- You can make an “Easy Beef Stew with Tomato Juice” adding in more salt and a slurry of cornstarch or potato starch to help thicken the stew.
- The best replacement would be tomato sauce for “Beef Stew with Tomato Sauce”, lessening the amount of beef stock, replacing 1 cup with a cup of tomato sauce.
