  • 2 & ½ cup all purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • 2 sticks (200g) cold butter

  • ½ cup cold water

  • 1 beaten egg ( for the crust )

  • 4 pieces apples

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice ( half a lemon )

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg

  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • ⅓ cup white sugar

  • 2 tablespoons all purpose flour

Directions

  • In a bowl, mix all purpose flour, salt, sugar, and cold butter. Mix this with a pastry cutter until this resembles a coarse sand. Add 2 tablespoons of cold water at a time, mix until you form a dough. Chill for at least 2 hours.
  • For the filling; Peel the apples, remove the core, and slice the apples. Place these in a bowl with some lemon. Mix in cinnamon, nutmeg, ground ginger, brown sugar, white sugar, and all purpose flour. Set aside.
  • Take the chilled dough and divide this into half. Roll one half and place this in a pie plate. Fix the edges to fit the plate, then place in the apple filling with the sauce.
  • Roll the other half and cover the apples. Seal the edges using a fork. Remove the excess dough and slit the top with a knife. Brush the crust with a beaten egg.
  • Bake in a 350°F or 175°C preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes or until the crust looks golden. Let it rest for a while before serving.
