Cheesy Potato Rolls

Cheesy Potato Rolls is a scrumptious and healthy dish made by filling the beacon slices and sliced mozzarella inot the deep cut made on potatoes and topped up with, a butter flavour made by butter, garlic and oregano. This potato is baked in a pan, after topping up with more butter flavour until the potato is fully cooked and become soft.

What are scalloped potatoes?

Scalloped potatoes originated from England. “Scallop” is the term used to define the way the potato is sliced. The word “dollop” means to slice thinly in old English. The dish is usually made with thin uniform cuts of potatoes that can be layered in a pan layered with cream or sprinkled with cheese, seasoned, and baked. Scalloped potatoes and Potato au Gratin are similar and with the rich creamy sauce dolloped over a potato casserole dish. The difference between the scalloped and au gratin are that scalloped potatoes are sliced thickly while potato gratins are more decadent and has a crispy outer layer made of breadcrumbs with the potatoes sliced differently and thinner.

In this recipe there will be no need for extensive cutting and baking, this no oven dish is a quick but still delicious version of the bakes scalloped which still has cheese, crispy bacon and savory sauce made of butter, garlic and oregano. Slathered between slices filled with your favorite cheeses and meats, ‘baked’ or dry steamed over a pan, and served immediately with a crispy outer layer and soft and fluffy inside.

No Oven Cheesy Potato Rolls

A roll of cheesy savory goodness

Ingredients

  • 4 pieces potatoes

  • 1/3 cup melted butter (salted)

  • 2 tablespoons garlic (chopped)

  • 1 tablespoon oregano (or any herb)

  • sliced bacon

  • sliced mozzarella

Directions

  • For the ‘flavoring’; in a small bowl, mix together butter, garlic, and oregano or any herb. Set aside.
  • Slice the potatoes an inch and a half deep, making sure not to slice till the end. Spread the butter flavoring all over.
  • In each of the slices, add bacon then mozzarella to make a pattern.
  • Place them in an oven safe plate or baking tray. Place more butter flavoring over this.
  • In a stove at medium high heat; place a large pan, cover this for 7 to 10 minutes. Uncover; place a rack in the middle with the baking tray above. Cover for 50 minutes to an hour or until the potatoes are soft in the inside.
  • Serve on a plate and garnish with more butter if you’d like.

Notes

  • You can choose to use any herb of your preference like basil, thyme or rosemary for this dish.
  • Peel the skin of the potatoes if you prefer.
  • For oven baking; bake in a preheated oven at 425°F or 220°C for 30 to 35 minutes or till it turns soft.

No Oven Cheesy Potato Roll Recipe (Tagalog)

  1. Para sa ‘pampalasa’, sa isang tasa paghaluin ang mantikilya, bawang, at oregano o kahit anong herb. Isnatabi.
  2. Hiwain ng isa’t kalahati na pulgada ang mga patatas, siguraduhing na hindi ito hinati hangang dulo. Pahiran ang pampalasa na mantikilya.
  3. Sa bawat pantig lagyan ng bacon o mozzarella para makagawa ng pattern.
  4. Ilugar ito sa oven safe na plato o baking tray. Pahiran ng natitirang mantikilya.
  5. Sa kalan na mag katamtamamng init, ilagay ang malaking kawali, takpan ito ng 7 o 10 na minute. Tangalan ng takip and lagyan ng rack sa gitna., ilagay sa itaas nito anf baking tray. Takpan ng 30 na minute o hangang 1 oras o pag lumambot na ang patatas sa loob.
  6. Ayusin ang paghanda nito at dagdagan ng mantikilya kung gusto.
